20 Inspiring Quotes About Autism Every Parent Must Read Today

20 Inspiring Quotes About Autism Every Parent Must Read Today

As Autism Awareness Month graces us once more, it’s important to take the opportunity to do more than just recognize its existence. According to the CDC, roughly 1 in 44 children in the United States are diagnosed with ASD by age 8. We must strive towards a better understanding and acceptance and use this opportunity to raise awareness, empower and show respect for those with autism.

Words are powerful. They can lift us up and bring us down. They can also be a source of comfort and inspiration. Quotes about autism have the power to remind us that we are not alone, that our struggles are valid, and that we can overcome them. They can also help us see the beauty in our children and the unique perspective they bring to the world.

Different, not less

One of the most famous autism quotes is from Temple Grandin, an autistic professor, and author.

She said, “I am different, not less.”

This quote challenges the stereotype that individuals with autism are inferior or incapable. Instead, it highlights the unique perspective and strengths that come with autism and encourages us to embrace diversity.

Powerful quotes about autism

Quotes about autism are not only for parents of children with autism. They are also a powerful tool for raising awareness and reducing autism stigma. By sharing inspiring and informative quotes about autism on social media, in presentations, or in conversations, we can help educate others about the condition and promote acceptance and understanding.

Inspiring Autism Quotes About Attitude, Acceptance, and Empowerment

These autism parenting quotes affirm our faith in our children’s unique abilities and offer the words we need for a response to an (often ignorant) comment.

  1. “Autism is not a tragedy. Ignorance is a tragedy.” – Kerry Magro
  1. “Autism offers a chance for us to glimpse an awe-filled vision of the world that might otherwise pass us by.” – Dr. Colin Zimbleman
  1. “If they can’t learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn.” – Dr. O. Ivar Lovaas
  1. “It takes a village to raise a child. It takes a child with autism to raise the consciousness of the village.” – Elaine Hall
  1. “Autism is not a choice. Acceptance is. Imagine if the opposite was true.” – Stuart Duncan
  1. “Autism doesn’t come with an instruction manual. It comes with a family who will never give up.” – Kerry Magro
  1. “Autism is not a tragedy. Running out of bacon is a tragedy.” – Kelli Stapleton

  1. “When a family focuses on ability instead of disability, all things are possible . . . Love and acceptance is key. We need to interact with those with autism by taking an interest in their interests.” – Amanda Rae Ross

Quotes from People with Autism and Their Perspectives on the Condition

Autistic individuals have a unique perspective on autism. Their insights and experiences can help us understand the condition better and promote acceptance and inclusion.

  1. “Autism is not a disease, it’s a difference.” – Chris Packham
  1. “I have autism. It’s not a disorder or a disease. Ignorance is a disorder, and it’s contagious.” – Kerry Magro
  1. “I have a different operating system. I’m not broken.” – John Elder Robison
  1. “No, autism is not a ‘gift’. For most, it is an endless fight against schools, workplaces, and bullies. But, under the right circumstances, given the right adjustments, it CAN be a superpower” – Greta Thunberg
  1. “If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.” – Stephen Shore
  1. “If I could snap my fingers and be non-autistic, I would not. Autism is part of what I am.” – Temple Grandin

This month (and beyond), come together to celebrate neurodiversity and safeguard it as a fundamental human right. By embracing this idea, we can create a more tolerant, imaginative, and inviting society for all. Let us recognize the incredible variety of ways our minds function and join forces to strive for a more just and inclusive future.

I’ll end with yet another quote by Temple Grandin, who needs no introduction to the world of autism and neurodiversity.

“What would happen if the autism gene was eliminated from the gene pool? You would have a bunch of people standing around in a cave, chatting and socializing and not getting anything done.”

Celebrate the unique qualities of the people we know with autism, express admiration for them, and ask those who have experience with autism to share what they would like us to know. Autism comes in many forms and shapes, and by listening to each other’s stories and taking action, we can make a positive difference in the lives of others.
